Mount Nelson is perhaps Cape Town´s most famous hotel. Opening its doors in 1899, the Mount Nelson was designed to emulate and outmatch the finest in London which was the leading capital of refined hostelry at the time. As soon as you enter through its grand gates names after the Prince of Wales and are saluted by the uniformed guard you get a sense of the hotel´s unmatched history in Cape Town.
It is today an urban sanctuary set at the foot of table mountain. The hotel combines old luxuries and traditions such as the famous afternoon teas and Garden Walks with the Head Gardener with new facilities such as the modern communications services, a Business Centre, a gymnasium, a luxurious spa (set to open in December 2007), two heated swimming pools and two all-weather tennis courts.
