PIgalle restaurant provides a quiet and gentle evening with romantic jazz, subdued lighting and good food. Pigalle, Cape Town, is located in Somerset Road Greenpoint and is very close to the De Waterkant village.
The decor and the jazz here do conjure up the atmosphere of the Paris red light district, Pigalle, which is the home of the famous Moulin Rouge.
The food at Pigalle is good. Solid favourites cooked well and at a decent price. Chef Paul Dimitrov has put a menu together filled with some of the famous signature dishes that Pigalle has become famous for - and a few other outstanding dishes too. Pigalle has become famous for cooking seafood well - and the seafood here is really highly recommended. It is done in a Portuguese style that enhances the flavour. The wine list is full of the popular South African favourites and the waiters and managers are quite capable at suggesting a complimenting wine to a particular meal choice.
The Tandoori prawn starter that I chose was shallow fried, leaving the prawns delightfully succulent. They were presented on a julienne vegetable bed and complimented with a coriander and mango salsa with hints of a sweet chill sauce.
My main course was a wonderful fillet of kingklip covered with sundried tomatoes and served on a bed of fresh asparagus tips. By adding some delicious mustard and truffle mash to the plate and Chef Paul had me saying '..delicious!'
For a dessert I chose the pavlova. It was a tough decision because the creme brullee kept on teasing me. I finished off my meal with a good espresso. I had a great evening, although I was a little bored. With a name like Pigalle, I expected a jazz singer in a sexy red dress....oh well...
