Wine Tour of Stellenbosch, Tokara, and Franschhoek from Cape Town
This guided tour explores South Africa's top wine regions around Cape Town, including Stellenbosch, Tokara, and Franschhoek, ideal for wine enthusiasts and cultural visitors.
Description
The tour begins with a hotel pickup in Cape Town. Upon arrival in Stellenbosch, enjoy a walking exploration of the historic town where you can also grab a coffee before the first wine tasting.
Next, visit Lanzerac wine estate for a chocolate and wine pairing tasting featuring 5 premium wines matched with artisanal chocolates. Lanzerac is one of Stellenbosch’s oldest wine estates.
Travel via Hell’s Heights Pass to Tokara or a similar winery for a tasting of 5 classic wines including a Rosé and Cabernet Sauvignon. Tokara’s vineyards benefit from rich soils of decomposed granite and sandstone, producing individual batches blended into top-tier wines.
Continue to Franschhoek via the historic town of Pniel for a lunch break and optional shopping. Franschhoek offers art stores, jewelry shops, leather goods, clothing outlets, and fine chocolate factories.
After lunch, board the Franschhoek wine tram for wine tasting at local farms. The tram ride takes about 8 minutes between farms. Choose up to two farms to visit, and a third if time permits.
First possible stop is Rickety Bridge, the first female-owned farm in Franschhoek, where you can taste wines or opt to relax at Paulina's restaurant with panoramic vineyard views.
Another option is Franschhoek Cellar, offering wine and cheese or handmade Belgian chocolate pairings, or traditional wine tastings.
On the return journey to Cape Town, stop at the prison where Nelson Mandela spent the last two years of his 27-year incarceration. A lifesize bronze statue of Mandela stands outside the prison gates symbolizing strength and courage.
