Description

This 1.5-hour surf package offers open group coaching for individuals or groups up to six people. The lesson begins with an introduction to your surfboard and handling it in and out of the ocean. You will focus on developing a pop-up technique proven to help hundreds of students catch their first wave.

The session covers:

• Reading waves: when and where to catch them
• Surf safety
• Steering left and right on a wave
• Eskimo or turtle roll techniques to get through waves

If you have prior experience, the instructor will assess your skills at the start and tailor coaching to help you progress. This lesson prioritises skill development and is suitable for beginners and those with some surfing experience.

Valuables should be left at your accommodation. You may leave essentials like phones or car keys in the Surf Life vehicle, but this is at your own risk. Surf Life Surf School PTY Ltd is not liable for any loss or damage.

• What to wear: Swimwear
• What to bring:
  • Towel
  • Dry swimwear to change into after the lesson
  • Water bottle

  • Warm clothes if you get cold easily
  • Emergency medication (inhaler, Epipen, etc.)
• Guests and spectators: Non-paying guests cannot participate but may watch from the beach

Requirements

• Minimum age: 8 years
• Maximum weight: 120 kg
• No fitness or prior experience required
• No height restrictions
• No certification required

Inclusions and Exclusions

• Inclusions:
  • Surf instruction by a qualified instructor
  • Use of surfboard and 4/3mm wetsuit
• Exclusions:
  • Transport to and from the meeting point
  • Meals, snacks, refreshments, water, sunscreen, and towel

Important Information

• Lessons are cancelled only if the ocean is too rough or during lightning
• All participants must complete the Surf Life Surf School indemnity form before the lesson; parents must sign for children under 18
• Valuables may be left in the Surf Life vehicle at your own risk

Arrival and Transport

Please arrive 15 minutes before your lesson and meet the Surf Life SA team on the grass area in the big parking lot at Hang Ten Drive, Eden on the Bay, Big Bay. Transport is not included. Use Uber or a rental vehicle to reach the location. Allow 35 to 45 minutes for travel, depending on traffic. Weekend parking can fill quickly and may require an additional 5 to 15 minutes to find a bay.
