Description
The Skeleton Gorge route starts in Kirstenbosch Gardens, famous for its rich fynbos collection. The trail climbs through a densely wooded gorge featuring waterfalls and ladders, leading to the sandy summit areas of Table Mountain. This route offers a cooler hiking option on hot Cape Town days, presenting a distinct perspective of the mountain.
The hike begins at Kirstenbosch Gardens, progressing along Smuts Track to the Contour Path. From there, the route ascends a stepped path beside a stream, passing ladders over polished rock faces. The trail follows the rocky streambed briefly before zig-zagging up the slope, crossing the gorge to reach the mountain summit’s sandy areas.

Important Information
The hike does not include the cable car descent by default. Cable car down can be arranged before the hike for an additional R200 per person. If using the cable car, you must arrange transport (e.g. Uber) back to Kirstenbosch, at your own expense. Sharing an Uber with the guide is welcome.
