Description
Escape the bustle of the city and discover the peaceful beauty of Cecilia Forest, one of Cape Town's most scenic indigenous forests on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain.
Hike Overview:
Our hike begins at the Cecilia Forest Parking Area and follows well-maintained paths beneath towering yellowwood, ironwood, and oak trees before gradually ascending alongside the tranquil Cecilia Stream. Pass shaded rest spots before reaching the historic Cecilia Waterfall Ravine, a popular resting point surrounded by moss-covered rocks and indigenous vegetation.
From there, we continue along the scenic contour path toward Vaalkatkloof, Nursery Ravine, and Skeleton Gorge, where panoramic views of the Cape Flats and False Bay begin to unfold. From here we gradually descend and end the tour at the famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, with enough time to explore and enjoy the Gardens’ amenities.
Throughout the hike, your guide explains the ecological significance of the forest, which forms part of the protected Table Mountain National Park and the globally renowned Cape Floristic Region. Spot native bird species such as the Cape sugarbird, orange-breasted sunbird, and forest canary while learning about the area’s rich biodiversity, seasonal wildflowers, and centuries-old water catchment system.
