Description
• Stellenbosch (1h45) Embark on a journey through the Stellenbosch vineyards, just 20 minutes from Cape Town. This region offers breathtaking scenery and is home to a variety of grapes, including Chenin Blanc, Shiraz, and the uniquely South African Pinotage. You will also learn about the Methode Cap Classique, a local sparkling wine technique that rivals the finest French champagnes. Then, explore the lively town of Stellenbosch with a stroll through its historic center before visiting two distinguished wine estates. At the first estate, enjoy a cheese tasting paired with several carefully selected wines, then continue to the second estate for a tasting of other local wines. You will also have the opportunity to purchase wines to take home. • Franschhoek (2h) We then head to the village of Franschhoek, a wine lover’s dream destination, also known as the “French Corner,” an old Huguenot village. With its charming streets and estates bearing French names, the village will transport you to another era, as if you were in France. Take a stroll through the historic center and enjoy its peaceful atmosphere. A 5-minute stop at the Huguenot Memorial is included for photos (entry to the museum is optional). Then, hop on the Franschhoek Wine Tram for a brief scenic ride through the vineyards to a local wine estate, where you’ll enjoy a tasting of 4–5 carefully selected wines. • Drakenstein Prison On the drive from Franschhoek to Paarl, you’ll pass by Drakenstein Prison, also formally known as Victor Verster Prison. This prison is famous for being the place where Nelson Mandela spent the last fourteen months of his imprisonment for campaigning against apartheid, before his release in February 1990. • Paarl (1h) The tour continues with a scenic drive around Paarl, one of South Africa’s oldest towns, known for its wine estates and beautiful landscapes. Admire Paarl Mountain, whose large granite rocks shine like pearls in the sun, giving the town its name. Learn about the town’s history, from the early Dutch settlers to its role during apartheid, before returning to Cape Town for hotel drop-off.Includes
