Welcome to the wild side of the Cape... Just beyond Cape Town, the West Coast unfolds into a world of endless beaches, windswept fishing villages, wildflowers and wide-open landscapes. It’s a place where the pace is slower, the characters are larger than life and the landscape feels wonderfully untamed. This two-day journey brings the West Coast to life through its landscapes, people, history, heritage and flavours. We’ll explore the places that make this corner of the Cape so distinctive, uncovering the stories behind the scenery and meeting some of the people who give the region its unique character. At the !Khwa ttu San Centre, we’ll discover the rich heritage of Africa's indigenous people and gain an insight into their deep connection with the land. Along the coast, each village has its own distinct personality. Langebaan is all about the spectacular turquoise lagoon, with its calm waters, sweeping beaches and relaxed seaside atmosphere. In Paternoster, whitewashed cottages and a working fishing community create a classic West Coast village experience. Saldanha Bay offers something completely different, with its deep natural harbour and fascinating oyster farms – a chance to discover how these prized shellfish are cultivated in the cold, nutrient-rich waters of the bay. And to taste them with a glass of champagne! Further inland, Darling brings a playful, creative side to the West Coast. We’ll explore the town’s rolling farmlands and visit the Darling Brew brewery, before discovering the wonderfully eccentric world of Evita se Perron. There’s also time to indulge your sweet tooth at the Darling Sweet Shop, making this a delightful mix of local flavour, humour, character and countryside. Along the way, expect a few surprises. The West Coast is not polished or predictable – its charm lies in its authenticity, eccentric characters, fascinating stories and spectacular natural beauty. When we return to Cape Town, you’ll have seen far more than beautiful beaches and pretty villages. You’ll have experienced the living heritage, flavours, landscapes and people of the Cape's wild coast.
