Cape Town City Ballet
Capetown
The Cape Town City Ballet has adapted and changed and continues to provide world class dancing entertainment. In this age of modern technology, movies and instant gratification, the Cape Town City Ballet reminds us that there is beauty in movement and a mystery in dance. It reminds us that there is an form of expressive communication that will survive long after technology changes.
The Cape Town City Ballet is administered by a Board of Directors. Prof Elizabeth Triegaardt is the Executive Director of the Company as well as Associate Professor at the UCT School of Dance. At present the company employs only 24 dancers, with a lean artistic and administrative staff. Productions are still mounted at the Artscape and The Baxter Theatre and every opportunity is sought to take the company into smaller venues and communities to advance the art of ballet outside of greater Cape Town
The Cape Town City Ballet has now to raise its own operational funding which is no easy task in this age of diminishing sponsorship, escalating costs and global economic downturn, but the Directors remain determined to ensure the continuation of this artistic treasure well into the new millennium.
