Dirtopia Trail Centre and Lodge
Capetown
TRAIL CENTRE: Open 7 days a week from 08h00 until 17h00! The Trail Centre is a unique outdoor shop that provides permits for 2 hiking & 3 mountain bike trails on the farm as well as general information to the active traveler. They also offer a variety of activity packages on the farm and surrounding area for families, groups, clubs etc as well as stocking maps, clothing, snacks and basic mountain bike accessories.
HIKING TRAILS: Meurant Botha from Dirtopia was also responsible for constructing the 9,75km Delvera Hiking Trail that takes hikers to the top of Klapmuts Koppie. This total route takes about 2,5 hours and permits cost only R20 per person and R10 for kids under 10. Some hikers prefer to do the less strenuous but equally beautiful Vineyard Walk to the Pepper Tree that takes about 1,5 hours (5,25km). This walk also introduces the nature lover to 7 different wine cultivars. Bird lovers can also buy a permit to walk to the farm dam - home to a variety of bird life like owls, fish eagle, geese, ducks etc. Other animals spotted: gennet, fox. Every month (September-April) the Trail Centre organizes a Full Moon Hike to the top of the Koppie. The public can enjoy a picnic while watching the sunset over Table Mountain and wait for the Full Moon to rise.
MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS: Porcupine mountain bike trail - 15km (with another 3km black route singletrack option.) This marked trail on Delvera is geared for advanced riders with over 5km of technical constructed singletrack. Well worth doing and it keeps on expanding and improving... Watch out for the North Shore trails in the poplar forest. Farm mountain bike trail - 7, 25km Hire a mountain bike from the Trail Centre and ride this non-technical route on farm roads between the vineyards. Suitable for the whole family.
TRAIL LODGE: In March 2005 Dirtopia opened a self-catering Lodge on Delvera, to supply affordable accommodation for visitors to the Stellenbosch region as well as being the perfect base to explore the wine estates and other attractions of the Simonsberg Wine Ward.
WINE TOURS ON BIKES: Mountain Bikers can visit about 4 farms (like Simonsig, Knorhoek, Muratie and Delheim for example) in the Simonsberg wineward. This includes the mountain bike hire, guide, cellar tour and wine tastings. Cost from R300 per person for a half day (08h30 - 13h00). Minimium of 4 riders.
The Centre also offers Nordic Walking, book at the Trail Centre for sessions and/or hire of poles and a pump track: which is a cross between a BMX, dual and jump track for mountain bikes and BMXes.
