At Avondale, their aim is to make extraordinary wines, and with an ethos of Terra Est Vita, meaning 'Soil is Life', a visit there will make it clear that they have paid careful attention to all aspects of the wine making process. Avondale Estate is founded around the concept of a dynamic living system where all elements - soil, water and energy, plants, animals, people, and even their buildings, are part of a complex web of relationships and networks, all of which are interconnected and interdependent.
Avondale places an emphasis on producing premium quality wines, and their balanced approach to the vineyard ecosystem ensures Avondale's naturally made 'slow' wines. The flavourful grapes that the vineyard produces shine through in their wines, and helps define a taste that over the years has become uniquely Avondale.
Avondale wines are also certified organic, and given the above eco-friendly practices, are considered ahead of the curve as far as viticulture is concerned.
The estate is fascinating and well worth a visit, and being located in Paarl they are perfect as a one stop on a day's wine route trip through the region. They are open from 10h00 until 16h00 Monday to Saturday, and all visitors are welcome.
