Mont Rochelle Mountain Vineyards
Capetown
Mont Rochelle Mountain Vineyards are situated against the Klein Dassenberg mountains in Franschhoek.
The Mont Rochelle Hotel is located in the vineyards and there visitors can enjoy Mange Tout. At the wine tasting centre in the 150 year old boutique cellar is Country Kitchen.
The Mont Rochelle Mountain Vineyards were first planted in 1994. In 2001 Miko Rwayitare bought the Mont Rochelle farm and became the first black african to own a wine farm in South Africa. The Miko Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 has been winning awards recently.
The Mediterranean-like conditions which are found in Franschhoek provide dry summers and high winter rainfalls. The gentle winds in the Franschhoek Valley bring cooler air to the vineyards which allow for a longer ripening period.
