Maynardville Open-Air Theatre
Capetown
The Maynardville Open-Air Theatre is located in Wynberg and is one of Cape Town's top 100 things to do. It has been the home to many productions since the 1950’s when the visionary ideas of Cecilia Sonnenberg and René Ahrenson transformed a park into an open-air theatre.
Literally hundreds of thousands of school children since then have been able to view their English language set work performed live at Maynardville. The lush trees that surround the stage and the seating area add to the Elizabethan setting of the annual Shakespeare set work.
The park that surrounds the stage and seats allows one to bring a picnic basket which can be enjoyed before the show starts. It’s a glorious way to spend time with the family and friends enjoying a picnic before a production or a rendition from the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra.
The nights can get chilly quickly – so we suggest that you bring along a warm item of clothing – and possibly even a blanket. Check out our Events page for current and upcoming events. Bookings can be done through Computicket.
