Stellenbosch on Foot
Capetown
Sightseeing and Tours
Explore the 'Village of the Oaks' as you stroll along shady oak avenues bordered by the water furrows of the Mill stream and admire the charm and harmony of the Cape Dutch Architecture. Enjoy tales of yesteryear and of the colourful inhabitants of the past that will make three hundred years of history come alive while you experience the present in the second oldest settlement in South Africa, Stellenbosch.
This 90 minute guided walk will take you to many places of interest. South Africa's most famous village green, The Braak is surrounded on three sides by beautiful old buildings: Rhenish Complex, Burger House, VOC Kruithuis/Arsenal, Coachman's Cottage and St Mary's Anglican Church.
Dorp Street, once 'the wagon way to Cape Town' and now the oldest residential street in RSA, cannot be rivaled for ambience and architectural beauty. 'La Gratitude' with the 'all-seeing eye' in the front gable, is one of the best-known houses in Dorp Street. Three fires destroyed the village and today d'Ouwe Werf, the oldest hotel in SA, stands in what was once the graveyard.
Perhaps you will meet an angel at the 'Angel Factory' or a ghost in the graveyard of the Moederkerk. A visit to the Village Museum and University campus can also be included.
