White Shark Projects
Capetown
Cage diving with great white sharks has to be one of the ultimate experiences in a persons lifetime! Just outside Cape Town, these majestic and powerful creatures can be observed from the safety of a dive cage. The entire experience is conducted by experienced, permitted and technically capable crew and guides. White Shark Projects is without doubt the most successful white shark diving organisation in the world. They operate from a protected marine area just off the southern Cape coast, near Dyer Island where the sharks feed off seals.
The skippers and crew have more contact with great white sharks than anyone else worldwide. The boat has been custom built for shark diving and is licensed for 20 passengers. And they have lots of public insurance too. All Marine Coastal Management regulations are observed. White Sharks Projects has 15 years' experience in great white shark research, conservation and ecotourism.
White Shark Projects works in partnership with the Great White Shark Protection Foundation, South African Tourism Services Association (SATSA), Cape Town Tourism, Cape Town Information Centre, Gansbaai Tourism Bureau and SKAL International. White Shark Projects is the preferred choice of filming for the BBC and the National Geographic and Discovery channels. The White Shark Projects diving and viewing centre also offers day trips, overnight packages, team-building activities, incentives, VIP trips and group bookings.
White Shark Project offers to collect you from Cape Town or Hermanus and shuttle you to 'White Shark Lodge', in Kleinbaai. A few hours before the trip - you should take some sea-sickness tablets. You should bring along suntan lotion, a cap and sunglasses, a warm jacket, a swimming costume and towel and comfortable shoes. Breakfast of yoghurt, cereals, toast and cold meats, tea and coffee is served. Lunch is served on board and afternoon tea on dry land.
Before heading out to sea, the skipper of the day gives a short lecture on the Great White Shark. We encourage you to ask as many questions as you need to! The trip takes between 2 and 4 hours - shark depending. The cage handles 4 people at a time. Each person spends about 20 minutes in the cage. All scuba equipment, including 7mm wetsuits, are provided - so you don't need a scuba licence to cage dive.Weather permitting, the tours run every single day. Prime shark viewing is in the winter months so peak season is April to October (99% success rate). November to December (90 - 99% success rate) and January to March (80 - 90% success rate)
