Five Flies Restaurant is located in the heart of Cape Town’s financial district. Five Flies Restaurant is inside a historic Cape Dutch building and the ambience created mirrors the financial and legal establishments around it quite well. The structure of this restored building allows for a few less crowded and more private dining rooms , a few courtyard tables and a cigar bar & lounge upstairs.
The wine bar overlooks the interior cobbled courtyard. The private dining rooms are well suited for romantic dinners and business lunches. Chef Ian Bergh and his team present a set menu of only the freshest and finest ingredient. The combination of great food, great ambience and outstanding service will give you a dining experience - that guarantees a return on your investment.
My evening started with the crispy duck spring roll with soya and plum sauce as a starter. I am more of a red meat person; but this dish definitely tickled my palate. I decided to order a soup instead of having a salad next. The smoked mussel and corn chowder soup with crispy bacon was another of Chef Ian Bergh’s creations. For a main dish, I chose the gratinated sole rosette with shrimp thermidore, sweet potato, creamed spinach and herb butter sauce. All in all - truly innovative and flavoursome.
The cigar bar and lounge upstairs has comfortable leather couches and open windows over the vibrant courtyard. It was our retreat for the rest of the evening. A glass of vintage port with a plate of proudly South African cheeses, biscuits & figs rounded off a great evening.
Five Flies is open from Monday to Friday for lunch and dinner with only dinner on Saturdays and Sundays. Secure off-street parking is available.
