Mowbray Golf Club is an excellent choice if you are staying in Cape Town and have the itch to play some golf but do not want to travel far. The course is located in a very central area and is only 15 minutes from the centre of Cape Town. The result of this does mean that many of the holes will play alongside a main road, but the course still has some breathtaking views of Table Mountain.
Mowbray Golf Club has in fact hosted the SA Open no less than 7 times as well as the Bells Cup 3 times. The layout of the course itself is well done with water featuring on several holes. The course does not play very long and also in our view was easy to play relative to some of the other courses. So this is a very nice and relaxed round where you can really try to shoot well.
Mowbray is a members club and so there are some restrictions on when you are able to play. Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons as well as all day Saturdays are reserved for members. Although it is worth giving it a shot and calling them up because if there are any times available the day before or on the actual day then they will allow visitors to play. In December and January you are able to tee off at a variety of times throughout the day, except for members' competition days. During the remaining months of the year tee times from both the 1st and 10th tees are available from 07h04 until 08h49 in the morning, and then from 11h39 until 13h31 in the afternoon.
Mowbray Golf Club is a pleasure to play, with its' close proximity to Cape Town, relaxed environment and relatively easy course to play this is an excellent holiday golf course.
