The Fugard Theatre
The Fugard Theatre, named after one of South Africa's greatest playwrights Athol Fugard, is located in the historic Sacks Futeran building in heart of the vibrant District 6 region of Cape Town. It offers a superb 280-seat theatre, a smaller studio, as well as an open rooftop for outdoor events. The renovated Congregational Church Hall serves as the dramatic entrance to the theatre, with careful attention to historical details displayed throughout the building.
The building alone is worth seeing, and when combined with a world-class show, makes the Fugard one of the most enthralling and engaging theatres in Cape Town. To take a look around the Fugard, view the Fugard virtual tour under the multimedia tab above.
The Fugard has played host to a number of celebrated plays and performances across all genres, including plays penned by Athol Fugard himself.
